At Black Hall you can be guaranteed a fantastic self-catering holiday which does not cost the earth, as we know just how important eco holidays are to many of our guests!

We are very fortunate at Black Hall to be able to offer eco holidays in a beautiful and unspoilt part of the country, in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).  We have the river Teme in the valley that marks our border with Wales, and Offa’s Dyke on the hill with panoramic views into Wales and across the Shropshire hills, making it the perfect location for eco holidays.

We are committed fully to running our  business as sustainably as possible and following on from organic management of the farm we are now actively looking at opportunities to run our self-catering holiday accommodation in an environmentally friendly way.

Our Lodges and Wigwams are all constructed from timber whether whole logs in the case of the Canadian Log Cabins or timber frame in the case of the Finnish Lodges. The Wigwams are made from Scottish grown larch and other soft woods.

We now heat all the buildings using wood boilers.  For the lodges, leisure building and swimming pool we use a 199 KW woodchip boiler and for the wigwam communal building we use a 25 KW log boiler.  These boilers provide full central heating and hot water requirements all year round.

We have recently signed a management plan with the Forestry Commission to coppice our own woodland and therefore bring it back into useful production.  For the next 10 years we expect to produce around 75% of our fuel requirements from the farm woodland giving local employment and a local and sustainable fuel source.

We are also using solar power to supplement our electricity supply.

Future projects include two other renewable electricity solutions.  The first is the introduction of a small scale hydro electricity plant supplying 2.4 KW from a stream near the lodges, which is scheduled to be up and running next year.

The second project is to install a 50 KW wind turbine that would produce nearly all the electricity we require for our business.  We have an excellent site with an average wind speed of 6.3m/second.  This project will commence when we have secured planning consent.
